NEW YORK – Jumping Jack Press, the pop-up book imprint from Up With Paper, unveiled its third everyday book, Barnacle Carnival, at the National Stationery Show today.
The 6.25” square book features eight fully illustrated spreads of aquatic antics and amazing pop-ups, highlighted with glitter and spot-UV.  The book has a suggested retail price of $17.99, and a portion of every sale will benefit Conservation International.
Barnacle Carnival is the sixth title, and third everyday book, from Jumping Jack Press, and introduces first-time author Jessica Southwick, who also illustrated the book.  Renee Jablow, who engineered the pop-ups for the company’s Kirby the Easter Dog title, contributed her paper engineering talents to the new book.
Barnacle Carnival follows a parent and child crab through unique games, rides and goodies at a fantastic undersea carnival.  From the Ferris Eel, to the Bumper bubbles, to the fast food stand with Deep Fried Algae (with Plankton Gravy), the book presents a carnival unlike any other. The designs and pop-ups provide humor and unexpected surprises that will delight pop-up book fans of all ages.

“We are certainly gratified at the response to our first five books, from consumers to retailers, to the juried competition of the Moonbeam Awards,” said George White, president of Up With Paper.  “Just as Up With Paper has done with its innovative pop-up cards Jumping Jack Press will continue to push the envelope to define excellence in the pop-up book market—and more titles are in the works.”

"I had a blast writing and illustrating Barnacle Carnival,” said Southwick. “Imagining what an underwater carnival would be like--from the rides, to the games, to the food, to the creatures enjoying it all--was bundles of fun. I hope that all the book's readers--kids AND adults--have as much fun with this book as I did!"
With the release of Barnacle Carnival, Jumping Jack Press is offering a counter display program to specialty retailers, enabling them to merchandise six books each of two of the company’s everyday titles—Barnacle Carnival, Kirby’s Derby, and/or Splish Splash, Dog Bash!—in a compact counter display, plus one free sample book.
