The Nutcracker Wins Gold Medal in 2018 Moonbeam Awards

Mason, OH: Jumping Jack Press’s brand new title, The Nutcracker: An Enchanting Pop-Up Adaption, has been awarded the gold medal in the 2018 Moonbeam Awards’ Book Arts / Pop-Up / Cut Out category. The Moonbeam Awards recognize exemplary children’s books and their creators, honoring authors, illustrators, and publishers worldwide each year with a gold, silver, or bronze medal in a wide variety of categories.

Jumping Jack Press brought the Nutcracker to life in a pop-up adaption of this classic holiday tale. Seven brightly-illustrated and dynamic spreads of pop-ups and interactive elements tell the story like never before. Each spread showcases an elaborate scene with intricate details, including a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, a full 360-degree pop-up of a swan-shaped boat, and pull-tab interactive components that move characters back and forth in a captivating battle scene.

This enchanting edition features charming illustrations by Neiko Ng, a story by regular Jumping Jack contributor Jessica Southwick, and pop-ups from award-winning paper engineer Yevgeniya Yeretskaya. Yevgeniya’s extraordinary work can be seen throughout Jumping Jack Press’s collection of seasonal pop-up books. In an interview with Best Pop-Up Books, she shared her enthusiasm about The Nutcracker in particular: “I’m very excited about this subject matter, because it combines my love of strange fairy-tales with a life-long appreciation of theater and ballet.” Best Pop-Up Books noted, “It is hard to imagine a pop-up book collection without a book created by Yevgeniya.”

The Nutcracker is available now to ship to retailers. This title has a suggested retail price of $29.95, and a Japanese edition is also available in Japan from Jumping Jack Press co-edition partner Dainippon Kaiga.
